10:57 am - Baycon Well, as per me usual state of planning: I'd like to go to Baycon, but I completely forgot to deal with getting a place to crash. Is there any chance that anybody here'd have extra space? I dun take up much space, am fine with weird places like the closet or under a table, and can pay for a bit of the room if needed. :) Current Mood: mellow

12:20 pm - HVAC HVAC is such a funny acronym. It sounds like it should stand for Havoc. It should have at least a couple specializations, one in knowing how to deal with havoc, and one in creating havoc, hehe.
"Oh noez, the world has gone to shit! What do we do?!" "Don't worry, I'm a HVAC major, I know what to do!"
"Grr, they piss me off! We should riot!" "Sounds great to me, and I know exactly what to do, I'm a HVAC major and rioting is my specialty!"
Too bad it just stands for History of Visual Arts and Culture...

Hehehe, so true! I especially love the part on teh nesting habits! :D "most Kitsune are known for making "nests" out of their beds, which includes 10 layers of blankets and pillows. duck down, cashmere, cotton, wool, flannel etc. We will burrow toss and turn until the so called bed has been obliterated into a former pile of itself and everything is in its misplaced spot, and only THEN can we rest soundly." 10:07 pm I posted a random little thing a few days ago about gay rights, but I forgot initially to put in that I mostly liked it because of the quote. I think it's funny how many people seem more comfortable with public physical violence than with public physical affection. When people fight in public, people gather in huge crowds to watch it, and even pay a lot of money and fill stadiums up to watch people fight, but when people kiss or cuddle in public people get disgusted and tell them to go away. Many guys seem to consider it much more appropriate to insult and mock-fight, or to compete mentally or socially in the absence of full physical competition, with their male friends than to give them a hug, much less any other kind of physical contact, no matter what they think of the limits with their female friends. People get surprised and shocked at the thought of subliminal sexual messages in Disney movies, yet think nothing of the overt murder, psychological abuse, poisoning, violent government coups, etc, that are in the movies. People don't think much about letting their kids watch violent shows or play violent video games or play with toy weapons, but get all indignant about the thought of their kids seeing something with sexual content.
A random gun crazy friend of a friend reminded me of another line of thought I find rather funny. The stereotypical "conservative" tends to cry foul and "nannying" and thinks that the government should stay out of peoples business when it comes to owning guns, yet they tend to be the most avid supporters of nanny type laws regarding what kind of chemicals a person can put into their body, what kind of relationships and marriages people can have, whether or not you have a baby, or what to do with unwanted fetuses. Those same people who tell the government to stay out of peoples business when it comes to gun control laws tend to be the same types of people calling for drug laws, anti-gay marriage laws, anti-abortion laws, and anti-stem cell research, even to the point of thinking it fine that we try to go and tell other countries how to do things regarding such issues.

10:30 pm - Gay Rights "Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines
We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks. -- Random little thing I yoinked from a friend. I don't care much for the chain letter type tone of it, but I liked the quote. It's funny how America supposedly is all about peace and democracy and diversity, yet a large number of people are much more comfortable seeing a couple guys killing each other than holding hands or being affectionate. It's funny too how holding hands is so often equated with sexuality. Even the people who originally wrote this meme seem to have an underlying idea that two guys holding hands = gay, rather than the possibility of it being a friendly gesture.

07:38 am I'm in Portland now, visiting my parents until Sat. Then back to school and all that fun stuff.
I did really badly on my finals. I got very lazy and barely did my papers and didn't study for the one in-class final. I failed Syntax. :( But I passed Phono with a C at least... Bleh. Oh well.
That's all I can think of really. I should get some sleep now.

03:13 am - First Snow! I was sitting around at Saturn today, having dinner with some friends, and suddenly a bunch of people start crowding around the doors acting all excited. After a few minutes of that we decided to go and see what was up. It was snowing! Kinda anyway, it was mostly slush and hail, but still, it's the closest I've ever seen to real snow. Especially in Santa Cruz. It snowed in Santa Cruz!
People at school were so excited. Everybody was wandering around sliding down hills on dining hall trays and stuff. People were having snowball fights all over the place. Me and Lizzy and the Jenn even made a snowman. He was a couple feet tall even, just chilling on a bench. They made signs for him too. One with "Cold War Veteran", "Ice Cream is murder", "I think I have pneumonia!" and "First snow! Naked run!" Hehehe, it was so cute. Gonna get pictures soon from everybody.
Lizzy says: "Stop killing my tummy with your cold cold hands!"
And when we were walking from Saturn to get some Coldstone in the snow, there was a little snow-bum. He had a little cup and a sign saying "Not much time left, need $ to buy fridge". And the bum next to him had a little flower and a sign for after it melted saying "Rest in peace frosty". It was really funny and cute.
Yay for snow! Current Mood: bouncy Current Music: DJ Sy - Hardcore Heaven 2

12:39 am Yaaaaay! The holidays have been really great so far. Solstice was pretty quiet and nice. Xmas eve and day were fabulous! Liwl's family had a very nice party at their uncle's house yesterday and at their house today. It was very amusing to get up early in the morning and come down to watch everybody open presents. They had a huge mountain of present wrappings covering the floor. I got an iPod Shuffle from Liwl's parents! :D It's so cool! I can finally play mp3s. Yay. Purrr.
Might get to see Stef-chan tomorrow or Tuesday. That would be really nifty too. :)
